Agreement on Agriculture: the clause of peace and future perspectives

The agriculture sector was re-introduced in the multilateral trade system, by the execution of the Agriculture Agreement, in the World Trade Organization. Because of the diverging positions of the countries involved in the negotiation of the Agreement, its execution was only possible due to the inclusion of a Peace Clause, which postponed the implementation of some of the Agreement’s provisions. The juridical consequences of such clause deserve a deep analysis, for it compromises the efficacy of the other provisions of the Agreement. The agriculture sector is still being negotiated within WTO, most recently at the Doha Round, which results are still undefined.
