Isolation and identifiaction of yeasts of the genus Candida from chickens (Gallus gallus domesticus)

The isolation of 54 strains of yeasts of the genus Candida from the digestive tract of 174 chickens, 54, adults and 120 chicks was reported. The isolation, obtained only from adult birds, was made through the inoculation o ftlie material in the typing of the strains followed the indications made after LODDER and BUCKLEY & UDEN. a) fermentative activity in glucose, maltose. lactose, galactose and sacharose; b) formation of ferm tube in bovine serum medium; c) production of chlamidospore in “Corn Meal with Tween RJ” in slide culture. According to the results of these tests, 41 (75,9 per cent) of the 54 isolated strains wore identified as Candida albicans.
