Abstract

Gazogene is a kind of engine which transforms a solid fuel into gases of low power of combustion. This poor gas, produced through the burning of wood or coal, can be used to move motors previously built to operate with gasoline.

During the World War II it was employed by Brazilians in order to take place of imported liquid fuels, when these were the source of power that kept about one third of motorcars operating in their country. Nation where this practice could be taken as an example of a well succeeded policy of substitutive energy, in spite of its very short life.
