Abstract

This article is an historical account of Brasil´s participation in the exploration of the Antarctic and of the country´s objectives in this region. Primarily, Brazil has concentrated its efforts on scientific research in various fields. This has led to direct contact armong scientists of many research areas. Yet one of the most significant contributions this endeaver has yielded has been that of proving that at least in the Antarctic effort there has been the possiblity for dialogue among the military and academic communities.
