Abstract

A study the short story "A hora e vez de Augusto Matraga", the text approaches the character and the structure of the narrative, recognized as the embryo of the author´s works. It identifies three definite moments in the action of the main character: the search for self-assurance, the ressurection and reintegration with nature and with himself; and the compensatory peace and plenitude that lead to  the recognition of the religious spirit of "rough" mysticism as one of the richest facets of Guimarães Rosa.
