Abstract

The aim of this paper is to discuss, within the structure of the short story "Uma Estória de Amor", by João Guimarães Rosa, the role and meaning of the festival which is organized on Samarra by its protagonist. Throughout the three-day-festival, the sacred and the secular mingle, creating a ritual place which will lead Manuelzão to confront his destiny.
