Abstract

This article aims to analyze the Seresta nº 9 (Abril) composed by Villa-Lobos upon a poem written by Ribeiro Couto. The context of the Brazilian modernism from the 1920s surrounds this song, which influenced not only the Brazilian concert music but also the popular music, especially by Antonio Carlos Jobim, whose song Double Rainbow (Chovendo na roseira) quotes a phrase extracted from Abril.
