The purpose of this study was to describe the health profile of the 184 workers employed in a Teaching Health Center in the city of Ribeirão Preto from the viewpoint of Health Promotion, using Blum's Epidemiological Model and the risk factors related to chronic-degenerative diseases. A descriptive study was carried out using a structured interview. The authors of the study concluded that the workers were mainly females at the age range of 35 to 39 years with a college degree. The results showed that 61.9% were overweight or obese; hypertension was detected in 33.1%; 41 (22.3%) had blood pressure above normal levels and obesity was present in more than half of the individuals with altered blood pressure. The data enabled the authors to explore the presence of self-created risks for chronic-degenerative diseases, to identify factors related to health promotion and disease prevention as well as to reflect about workers' self-care and self-responsibility concerning their health, aiming at the quality of life they will enjoy as a result of the demographic and epidemiological transition that we are currently experiencing.Downloads
