The clinical and bacilloscopic results obtained in a comparative study of the therapeutic action of rifampicin and DDS in the treatment of the virchow form of Hansen's disease are presented. Two relatively homogeneous groups of 24 and 23 patients were observed during periods ranging from 12 to 24 months. The results demonstrated the superiority of the action of rifampicin during the first months of treatment, both in clinical aspects and in relation to the reduction of viable bacilli. Rifampicin is recommended for treatment of the virchow form of Hansen's disease, at least at the begining of the treatment.Downloads
