Abstract

This article aims to discuss the theme of violence among football fans in stadiums in the Public Health perspective. It was developed through a literature review and a consultation with the Public Health Department and the Military Police of the State of Pernambuco. The consultation revealed the scarcity of data related to the subject, the sub-utilization of the existing data and the lack of interchange among institutions to use them in search of the creation of joint reflection and action mechanisms in order to find solutions for the problem. In the materials collection, reference works were consulted, such as books, journals, and congress proceedings. Texts published in the last two decades in Portuguese and English were prioritized. Online databases of scientific literature were also consulted, like LILACS, MEDLINE, SCIELO, BIREME, among others, and the following describers were used: violence, football fans, organized supporters, football, public health. The article reflects on the possibility of proposals and tries to point ways with respect to a behavior change based on a better understanding of this current and complex phenomenon in the Brazilian society scenario.
