Abstract

This article is about the quite turbulent editing history of A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and the importance of Harriet Weaver as Joyce’s
editor. It also points out some characteristics of this novel, such as the presence of epiphanies.

    Dirce Waltrick do Amarante is a professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (Brasil), a scholar and a translator of the works of James Joyce. She is the author of
    Para ler ‘Finnegans Wake’ de James Joyce (Iluminuras, 2009) and James Joyce e seus tradutores (Iluminuras, 2015), among other books. At the moment, she is dedicating herself to translating one narrative thread from Finnegans Wake.
