Mediating Extremes – A Journey of Rediscovery in Chile

Abstract

The aim of this article is to explore the healing capacity of travel, as
exemplified in the travel account, Between Extremes. It also analyses how
landscapes and locations have been mythologized, converted into sites of exilic exploration, Patagonia particularly. These sites then become places to enable the recovery of self and identity.

  • Sinéad Wall, University of Westminster

    WALL, SINÉAD, is currently teaching contemporary Spanish and Latin American literature and film at the University of Westminster. She has an M.A. in Hispanic Studies from University College London and a PhD (at UCL also) based on Irish immigration to Latin America and the narratives which emerged from it. Other areas of interest are travel writing, in particular, Irish travel writers in Latin America and contemporary Spanish cinema.
