Abstract

Present in the ancient Congo, in West-Central Africa, images of Saint Anthony were made there and used in specific ways. When related to this context, small images of Saint Anthony made in the River Paraíba valley, at São Paulo, acquire new meanings, only perceptible when we consider the cultures of origin of the enslaved who arrived there. This article updates the analysis already done by the author in another article, bringing new information about the Atlantic circularities that connected the Southeast of São Paulo to West-Central Africa.
