Abstract

From the analysis of two texts published in Argentina between 1940 and 1942, signed by agents linked to institutionalization of cultural heritage preservation of Brazil, we want to understand the impact of the Brazilian preservationist experience in Argentina and the networking people used to disseminate and legitimize their actions. In this article, we question the idea that the preservation of Brazil's cultural heritage took place isolated from the Latin American context, because we have identified larger than national scale connections sharing the same concerns. We intend to discuss the pertinence of considering the Serviço do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (SPHAN) as the only agent involved in the defense of the Brazilian cultural heritage by understanding the preservation, at the time of constitution of this organ, as a field under construction.
