Abstract

This paper examine some aspects of the management of the Centro de Preservação Cultural in Casa de Dona Yayá, a well recognized cultural heritage, transferred to USP in 1969, by inheritance, soon after the death in 1961 of Sebastiana Melo Freire, known as Dona Yayá. It presents some of the improvements that the USP has done in the building but, mainly explain the CPC- USP proposal of restoration and qualified utilization, that tried to articulate the knowledge of several specialists in the many knowledge areas an to combine these knowledge in a process of (re)cognition of the building as a memory place. The utilization and activities that were implemented are necessarily related to the building historicity, qualifying its multiples meanings and its social and cultural, material and immaterial memory. It's attempt therefore to guarantee a public and qualified destination to Casa de Dona Yayá.
