Abstract

The article deals with a problem related to the measurement of efficiency at a firm level: the performance paradox. This phenomenon characterizes by the proliferation of measurement methods and the non-correlation across the multiple efficiency measures. The discussion about the characteristics of the phenomenon is made based on the frontier production function models. Also, the problem is illustrated with 2 empirical studies made for Brazil and Argentina. At last, it is discussed the implications that the appearance of the problem brings to the choice of the efficiency measurement method atthe firm level.
