Abstract

This study aimed to verify the effects of patient education (PE) in patients with musculoskeletal disorders of the upper limb (UL) for the outcomes of pain and/or functionality. Two reviewers independently performed searches in the PubMed, Cochrane, PEDro, SciELO and LILACS databases, from the beginning of the publications until April 2021. Randomized clinical trials with human beings with musculoskeletal disorders in MS were included; who have undergone intervention with PE; and with pain and/or functionality outcomes. Reviewers independently determined study eligibility, extracted data, and assessed methodological quality using the PEDro scale. Eight studies were included in this review totaling 603 participants. PE had superior results in three of the studies in pain relief and/or function improvement compared to the comparative group in favor of the PE intervention. Apparently, PE is more effective when combined with exercise.
