Practical experiences and environmental education in the teaching of the atelier of integrated design of architecture, urbanism and landscape architecture

Abstract

Methodological practices through cross-cutting themes, collaborative processes and real problem solving enabling the architecture student to experience the place and its user, are of extreme importance in the training of the architect and urban planner. The purpose of this article is to present the experiences obtained in the design of sustainable spaces in the architecture of the schools within the discipline of Atelier of Design. The methodology encompasses teaching, research and extension through contact with the community, planning and execution of an environmental educational space. Site visits were carried out, questionnaires were applied to the pedagogical team and a didactic vegetable garden was planted in the courtyard of the selected school. Finally, there was the elaboration of a proposal for an educational building based on the studied concepts and the empirical experiences. It has been noticed that the participation of the university students in the extension activity motivated them to design spaces that could provide greater integration of the school community with its surroundings and the use of construction techniques with less impact on the environment and less energy consumption.
