This article reports on the approach of the visual photographer Jean-Michel Fauquet to the notion of landscape. It evokes the way in which, with the help of a camera, the emergence of a photograph entitled "The Spanish Shawl" was treated, a photograph of a mountain which, after having undergone multiple degradations in the print, reveals a colossal dog mounted by a rider. The genetic approach aims at a double effect, to bring up the material traces allowing to reconstitute the creation of the work and to show the relation that the artist maintains with the landscape and what are the elements that he implements to give a representation of it. This article aims to raise the question of the complexity of landscape representation and to show how Jean-Michel Fauquet's landscape results from a memorial construction, from an "anteriority".
