Abstract

This paper challenges the established perspective of the Historians on the Roman Republic and the Roman Principate as natural temporal demarcations. The author proposes that different scales should be used in order to think the articulations between permanence and rupture for these two moments of Roman History.

    Professor adjunto da Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto, e concentra seus estudos em temas como Sêneca, Tácito, Petrônio e Principado Romano. Possui graduação em Historia pela Universidade de São Paulo (1989), mestrado em História Econômica pela Universidade de São Paulo (1995), doutorado em História Econômica pela Universidade de São Paulo (2001) e pós-doutorado pela University of Oxford (2003 e 2012-2013).
