Abstract

The present work has as main objective to approach how religious elements were presented in coinage. For this, we will use a small selection, composed of eight monetary types dating from the 1st century BC, minted in the Roman Republic. Religion in Antiquity was not dissociated from other strata of experience and expectations, it was mixed in the field of experience of the subjects. In this way, religious elements (images, rituals, songs, etc.) are constitutive aspects of identities. The link of the Ceres deity with plebeian groups was also evident in the monetary types, therefore, this relationship was communicated at the same time that it was monumentalized.
