The aim of this paper is to provide an angle of analysis which is less developed and employed than others, on communication studies in Latin America. Particularly, the purpose is to reconstruct the influence of Armand Mattelart's work in this field, extended for more than fifty years, through citation recounts, nowadays facilitated by the digital resources available, but which have been developed for decades in various scientific fields as indicators of influence and recognition, which nevertheless need to be contextualized with caution.
