Abstract

The writings on music of Mário de Andrade show a shift in his political thought during the 30's. We can realize this change also by his comments on the Villa-Lobos performance in São Paulo.

On the other hand, the composers biography prove that he, at that time, as engaged to the political establishment, thus being greatly favoured in this carreer.

Mário de Andrade firmly desapproves Villa-Lobo's Attitudes. Later writings show a broader understanding of the problem, now viewed as a general gap in brazilian composers formation.
