In this review, we discuss principles of diagnosis and treatment of main noninfectious acute complications of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation: pancytopenia, ABO incompatibility, mucositis, venocclusive disease of the liver, hemorrhagic cystitis, interstitial pneumonia, cardiac and pulmonary toxicity and acute graft-versus-host disease. Eight clinical cases, taken from the series of our BMT Unit, are briefly presented to illustrate particular aspects of the diseases discussed in the article.
