O problema da incapacidade e da deficiência

Abstract

This article discusses the question of disability and deficiency as a relevant problem in the field of public health. It indicatesthe connection between life and work condltions of the Brazilian population and its heatth situation. It presents and discusses statistical data aboutthe disabled population in the State and in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, having as its source the 1981 National Sample Investigation of Residences by the IBGE Foundation. This paper points out the importance of the accidents of work in the formation of the estimation of the disabled or handicapped population.
