Abstract

Lately, even in times of peace, lesions caused by high energy projectiles have become more frequent as a result of increased urban violence and smuggling of war weapons by drug dealers and Mafiosi. This situation has made it necessary for surgeons and medical to examinors become familiar with the mechanisms and lesions caused by these types of guns. The entry lesions, trajectory and exit wounds caused by the bullet are studied by the author in this article, based on personal experience and literature review. Variation in the shape of the entry hole according to the speed and shape of the bullet is interpreted under physical principles and terminal ballistics. The temporary and permanent cavities are studied as to their formation mechanism, shape, volume and position along the trajectory. Research methods adopted by other authors are described and evaluated.
