Global production networks: a path of analysis for economic geography

Abstract

The recognition of the complexity of the global economy presupposes a comprehensive look at how geography can contribute to explaining the economic, social and power relations that operate simultaneously at multiple scales.  The objective of this article is to explore the concept of global production networks as a path of analysis for economic geography based on the contribution of the Manchester School of Economic Geography, whose studies were pioneered. The organization of global production networks is structured around the question of value and its trajectory, the characterization of actors and their diversity, as well as the configuration of networks and territorialities. It seeks to understand the dynamics of the organization of the global economy from an analysis centered on the agency of the actors, particularly the lead firms, their strategies and competitive dynamics, with the ultimate goal of achieving regional development and overcoming inequality.

  • Juscelino Eudâmidas Bezerra, Universidade de Brasília. Departamento de Geografia

    Possui graduação em Geografia Bacharelado (2006) e Licenciatura (2008) pela Universidade Estadual do Ceará, mestrado em Geografia pela Universidade Estadual do Ceará (2008) e Doutorado em Geografia pela Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho,Campus de Presidente Prudente (2012). Realizou estágio de pós-doutorado no Instituto de Estudos Sociais da Erasmus University of Rotterdam (Holanda) no âmbito do Programa de Cooperação Internacional CAPES/NUFFIC. Atualmente é Professor Adjunto do Departamento de Geografia da Universidade de Brasília (UnB).Tem experiência na área de Geografia com ênfase em Geografia Econômica e Geografia Rural atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: geografia da alimentação; sistemas agroalimentares e redes globais de produção; supermercados e formas de governança; dinâmica geográfica do trabalho. É membro do Laboratório GeoRedes e líder do Grupo de Pesquisa CNPq Governança, Sistemas Agroalimentares e Redes Globais de Produção - GovernAGRO. Também participa como pesquisador nos Grupos de Pesquisa: GLOBAU (UECE); REAGRI (UNICAMP) e GPVASF (UPE/Petrolina).
