Abstract

Based on recorded statements and documents researched in libraries and archives, my purpose in this article is to present historie facts which justify the existence of black rural districts in Ribeira Valley. One of these black rural districts, Nhunguara, is entirely composed of only one black family - the Vieira's - with about one hundred and fifty members, which exemplifies the many black communities of Eldorado District - SP.
