Abstract

The effect of the Russian Revolution of 1905 in German Social-Democracy stimulated a debate on the tactics of the transition to socialism. The centre of this debate was the effectiveness of the Russian example of mass strike, and it caused a split of the SPD in three tendencies antecipating the break that would occur in 1912. This debate is an excellent opportunity to check the programmatic positions of its three mains theoreticians: Eduard Bernstein, Karl Kautsky and Rosa Luxemburg.
