Abstract

The author desmistifies certain presupositions of liberal ideology present in contemporary historiography on slave, such as the myth of its expensiveness or its alleged incompatibility with technological innovation. The author studies the beginnings of the abolitionist ideology as a paradigm of the physiocrats and classical economists for whom free enterprize depended on the end of slavery. Reason why they were moved to the idealization of free and wage work as the starting point of the liberal utopia, as for the worker's utopia, free labor will only come to be under socialism.
