Choral singing in remote learning: perceptions on the adaptation of the UFPEL Choral Laboratory I discipline during the COVID - 19 pandemic

Abstract

This research deals with the adaptations made for the remote learning of the Coral Laboratory I discipline that took place in the 2021-2 semester, belonging to the curriculum of the Bachelor of Music courses at the Federal University of Pelotas. Proposed to identify and reflect on the challenges encountered by students and professors, starting from the observation of their experiences as active participants. Were used as research methods and sources: the survey of theoretical reference of bibliography abou t the teaching of choral singing; the collection of data with participatory research; application of questionnaire on the perceptions of participants in remote learning; and a questionnaire on the practice of teaching this discipline in the face-to-face model. Checked the technical difficulties in teaching choral singing in the remote teaching model; the impossibility of standardizing the quality of auxiliary devices; in addition to the problem of the absence of physical presence in the perception of what it is to sing in a choir and to make music together. It was also evident that repertoire adaptations; adaptations in the exposition of concepts, which required a greater visual appeal; as well as a greater diversity of examples on concepts of breathing, vocal emission, tuning, harmonization and conducting of voices in choir. As a conclusion, although the teaching of the Choral Laboratory I discipline in the remote model has been satisfactory, the absence of the physical presence of the phenomenon of making music together generates the perception of impoverishment of this experience on the part of the choristers, mainly those who did not have previous experience with choral singing.
