Abstract

The studies in active design involve the development of technical analysis and assessment of the quality of the sidewalks and the pedestrians’ perceptions. In order to investigate how active design can qualify the development of sidewalks to foster pedestrian activity, an exploratory research was developed. The city of Santo Ângelo was chosen in order to make possible the application of all steps foreseen in the research. The results allowed the identification of design guidelines for the improvement of the sidewalks, allowing researchers to list priority actions to intervene in this urban context.
