Abstract

Since the beginning of his practice as architect, in the 1970’s, Rem Koolhaas has placed himself as critic of the relationship between architecture and power, architecture and the economic and cultural system, subject that has become a key concept of his work. The aim of this article is to understand the unfolding of Koolhaas’ theoretical approach as foundation of his practice, in doing so building an effective action plan for an architect aware of his position in the globalized and neoliberal society. The analysis follows the chronologic launch of his books, highlighting the main ideas for the argument’s structure.
