This article aims to discuss the contemporary place of Portuguese literature among the literary readings of the Brazilian educational system. To this, the role of reinforcing the vernacular paradigm assumed by Portuguese literature in the teaching of the Portuguese language since the Empire was addressed. Subsequently, the presence of Portuguese literature is analyzed both in a sample of lists of literary works for entrance exams in Brazilian Universities. Finally, it was verified if the Lusophony, soundly with some recent public policies, would not present itself as a new paradigm for the selection of literary readings. The analysis indicates a lower presence of Portuguese literature.
