In the newspaper column “Viagem a Buenos Aires” (travel to Buenos Aires) published in 1915, João do Rio describes himself as a “rare traveler” and in the use of this category, in the Buenos Aires of 1915, Rubén Darío clearly resonates, who minted that term in Los raros (The Rare), and that corresponds to designate, in Latin America, a community of writers. The purpose of this article is to analyze the choice made by Joao do Rio about the rare, which, to the detriment of other types of travellers, will allow him to enter the capital of Buenos Aires and write about it. To do this, it will investigate the ways in which João do Rio reorganizes his literary career to make part of that group of writers.
