In Manuel Alegre’s Jornada de África (1989), and Manoel de Oliveira’s Non, ou a vã glória de mandar (1990), there is an explicit dialogue between the present of the colonial war in Africa – space where the protagonists of both works are placed – and the past of the country, with special emphasis on the battle of Ksar El Kebir. By confronting the movie and the novel, we intend to reflect upon the imperialist path and the end of the Portuguese colonialism.
