Quatro tragipoemas de Jacques d’Avray (Freitas Valle): tradução e comentários

We present, in this article, new translations to four poems by Jacques d’Avray – pseudonym of José de Freitas Valle (1870-1958) –, first published in his two Tragipoëmes series. The existing translations, undertaken by Adriana Zavaglia and Décio Pignatari, did not focus on the rhythmic aspects of the poems. To translate part of these aspects – and, with that, aim to recover part of the effects embedded in the original verses – is the objective of this article. These translations are followed by a brief introduction to the poet, his critical fortune, and brief commentaries on the translation process.
