This work underscores the importance of the comparative method in geography by stressing current processes of decentralization and practices of territorial cooperation being diffused at the local scale of management in France and in Brazil. Hence, this paper’s main objective is to highlight the hindrances and the advances visible in the territorialization of local public policies in each one of these two State models: the unitary and decentralized French model and the Brazilian federal model. By dealing with these two realities, the paper then shows how experiences of inter-municipal cooperation develop within both State models. Such substantiations underline the relevance of comparisons within the field of Political Geography. They enable a better comprehension of the spatial outcomes of policy within different State models.Downloads
