Abstract

This essay reflects on digitally circulated images in support for the Palestinian cause during the 2022 FIFA World Cup held in Qatar. By analyzing the sharing of Palestinian activism images in digital networks we realized that activists celebrated such demonstrations, using the event to spread the Palestinian cause. Photographic records of the demonstrations were seen as important for the national struggle, shared and reproduced in different profiles on digital platforms. Other representations sought to signify and legitimize these actions in a broader political landscape, arguments used by these actors during the World Cup, due to its character as an international media event, to fight for visibility and legitimacy to the Palestinian cause.
