Abstract

Between the XI and XIII centuries, the number of representations of Adam increased so much in the occidental Europe. This was a reflex of a new interest of the medievals about themselves that induced them to see in the history of that mythical personage the origin of all great physic, psychic and social characteristics of mankind. Due to its penetration in all cultural levels, the iconography was the vehicle of that collective autobiography of the medieval man.
