Abstract

The PUCV School of Architecture and Design in Chile, founded 70 years ago, postulated from its origins that architecture should be studied in the streets. Since then, professors and students unite their academic thinking and professional practice from a "thinking by doing" perspective, designing and building specific architecture for each place and its people, observing the way of life in Latin America. This entire legacy was made possible thanks to the creation of the Institute of Architecture in 1952; in 1971 from the Open City of Amereida; the Travessias in 1984; and since 2006, with the creation of the Projects and Technical Assistance Department, where public projects are developed that generate feedback, which have strengthened the professional training of students.
