Abstract

Upon realizing a resemblance between the body's pose in the photographic self-portrait of Bayard as a drowned man and other visual productions made throughout Western history, a twenty-seven-image panel guided by the Warburguian notion of Pathosformeln was elaborated to discuss the transformations of Western society in confronting death, studied by Huizinga, Ariès and Morin. On the other hand, Poivert's analysis on the relation of this photography with theater, the Chatterton biography, and the painting of the poet's death has made it possible to think about the notions of play, ritual and performativity, present in Schechner; the forged character of Chattertonian poetry, discussed by Groom; and the strong simulation of this drowned man, based on Baudrillard's thought.

Author Biography

  • Fábio Luiz Oliveira Gatti, Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA), Brazil

    Artista visual e professor. Oferece cursos livres sobre processos criativos em fotografia e teoria/história da fotografia no Ativa Atelier Livre, em Salvador. Desde 2014, atua como professor colaborador no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Artes Visuais da Escola de Belas Artes da Universidade Federal da Bahia (EBA-UFBA) e, atualmente, exerce a função de professor substituto na Faculdade de Comunicação da UFBA. É Doutor em Artes pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp) e Mestre em Artes Visuais pela EBA-UFBA. Fez duas especializações, uma em Fotografia e outra em História e Teorias da Arte, ambas pela Universidade Estadual de Londrina (UEL). Realizou Pós-doutorado, com bolsa CAPES-PNPd, na EBA-UFBA, a partir do qual organizou, junto com Rosa Gabriella de Castro Gonçalves, o livro A operação artística: filosofia, desenho, fotografia e processos de criação (Edufba, 2017). Em 2018, publicou, pela mesma editora, o livro bilíngue Futuro fora do tempo: poética, fotografia e incertezas. Desenvolve pesquisas com ênfase na prática fotográfica e na teoria e historiografia da fotografia e suas relações com o campo das artes visuais contemporâneas.
