This essay dedicated to Alfredo Volpi was started during the researches for the doctoral thesis Percursos poéticos and was based on the interviews left by the artist and in the historical texts dealing with modern art. His testimonies allows a more profound interpretation of the original context in which his work was produced. Therefore, the interplay between personal testimony and the pictorial practices permites a poetic interpretation of his work, with the city as a creative space: his paths relate to his experiences and travels, either in Brazil, in Sao Paulo and Mogi das Cruzes; or abroad: Venice, Padova etc. It is based on the interviews granted by the artist and on historical texts in the scope of modern art.
