The streets that cut through a city hide different stories. The toponym therein established becomes a clue to unearth the memory(ies) of the place. When writing in his memorial work Baú de Ossos about the now extinct street whose last name was General Câmara, the writer Pedro Nava tells us stories of the old city of Rio de Janeiro that are no longer anchored in the local landscape. Guided by Nava’s book, this work goes through this street in search of the relationship between the various toponyms mentioned by the author and the past of the street and the city, in addition to specifying what was destroyed for the construction of an avenue – and what remains until today.
