The present article aims to identify and to organize the main features of the research article genre. It analyses 60 research articles (30 from Sciences (Sc) and 30 from Social Sciences and Humanities (SScH)), focusing on languages, authorial voices, verbal tenses and text plans. The contrast between research articles from Sc and SScH shows emerging crossroads and several tendencies. According to data, SSCH articles use these features in more varied ways, with more distinctive authorial voices and stances, whereas Sc articles, all written in English, show more uniform and regular features.
