In this paper, we analyze an assignment present in the textbook Se Liga na Língua, related to the development of argumentative reading and its contribution to the development of argumentative abilities. The corpus is composed of material from the 6ᵗʰ grade of elementary school, adopted in the city-funded schools of Cícero Dantas (Bahia, Brazil). We selected a task from chapter seven, section Entre saberes, whose perspective requires opposing points of view. Methodologically, the research is documental and qualitative in nature. The analysis will count on applying a protocol elaborated to understand the authors' proposal, including suggestions for promoting argumentative reading from an interactional perspective (Plantin, 2008). The preliminary results suggest that the analyzed activity is based on the assumptions of argumentative reading, but it still requires adaptation and expansion. Thus, we hope this study contributes to the discussions about argumentative reading and cooperates with the effectiveness of teaching argumentation.
