Abstract

This paper calls the attention of Brazilian archaeologists to the importance of bioarchaeological studies. We offer a sampling protocol that can be a useful tool for fulfilling the needs of the bioarchaeological research in the field, leading to a systematic sampling of charcoal, plant, and faunal remains. We propose a sampling strategy that provides comparable data, from diverse sites, on paleoenvironmental conditions, subsistence systems, and interactions between the social and the environmental domains.
