The representations of still-life in Campanian frescoes are compared with the later Dutch still-life. On first sight they appears to be quite similar. However, the meaning of Dutch still-life is connected to a demonstration of opulence by the burghers at the time, Christian values and leamedness. Campanian frescoes have been associated with the Greek xenia and have also been called at times genre pictures.
